TH12 Ranked Base #2: Compact-Square Defense Built Around Core and Percentage Control

TH12 Ranked Layout #2 uses a compact-square defensive structure with the Town Hall protected inside the primary core. Looking at the base itself, the layout is not completely symmetrical, even though the central area appears fairly balanced at first. Several compartments surround the Town Hall at different depths, while important defenses are distributed across the left, right, upper, and lower sections.

That makes the defensive purpose fairly clear. Layout #2 is not simply trying to keep the Town Hall standing. It appears designed to make stars, percentage, troop movement, and remaining time compete with each other throughout the raid.

The Town Hall anchors the strongest defensive zone

The Town Hall sits deep enough inside the village that reaching it requires passing through meaningful defensive coverage.

Around the core, X-Bows, Inferno Towers, Air Defenses, and other high-damage structures provide pressure from different directions. Even when one compartment falls, the entire defensive network does not disappear with it.

That gives the layout some staying power.

From a defensive point of view, the best result is not necessarily an immediate stop. If the outer sections remove support troops, weaken heroes, or force abilities before the core is reached, the central Town Hall becomes considerably harder to finish cleanly.

Compact compartments can disrupt troop movement

The walls around the middle form several short, connected sections.

These compartments appear useful for redirecting troops rather than simply adding extra wall depth. Once one section opens, nearby targets can pull different groups in separate directions.

That kind of split is valuable defensively.

Heavy ground formations are strongest when heroes, tanks, and supporting troops remain together. If the layout stretches those groups across neighboring compartments, concentrated damage falls and defensive towers receive longer firing windows.

Even when plenty of troops survive, finishing in the wrong compartment can create a serious cleanup problem.

Air and Inferno coverage stays staggered

The Air Defenses provide staggered coverage around different parts of the core, while the Inferno Towers operate as separate high-value anchors.

That spacing makes the defense less dependent on one single zone.

If one section starts to collapse, another can remain dangerous. Against air-heavy pressure, this helps preserve coverage deeper into the raid. Ground formations face the same defensive principle: removing one Inferno does not automatically make the rest of the inner structure harmless.

For Ranked defense, this matters because every surviving section can protect another portion of the percentage.

Central spell value is the main weakness

The compact structure has an obvious tradeoff: several important defenses can operate relatively close to the same central area.

That creates high spell value if too many threats can be controlled together. The base is strongest when its major defenses force separate decisions. If one spell sequence affects several defensive anchors at once, some of the overlapping pressure may disappear faster than intended.

Exact defensive spacing and hidden traps are therefore especially important around the core.

The right edge carries extra defensive responsibility

The right edge appears to be the most accessible side of Layout #2.

Defensively, this area needs to make early progress expensive. It does not necessarily need to stop everything immediately. Forcing extra time, troop losses, hero damage, or an early ability may already make the deeper core considerably stronger.

Why Layout #2 fits Ranked

The strongest quality of TH12 Ranked Base #2 is its balance between objective protection and percentage control.

The central Town Hall pressures stars, compact compartments interfere with troop concentration, staggered defensive coverage preserves damage, and the surrounding sections can slow cleanup.
