TH16 Ranked Base #7: Compact Core with a Left-Side Entry and High Central Spell Value

Town Hall 16 Ranked Layout #7 looks fairly open around the edges, but the real fight is concentrated much closer to the middle. The Town Hall sits slightly toward the right side of the core instead of being perfectly centered, and the walls form a compact square with several narrow compartments feeding into it. That small offset changes the attack more than it first seems. A player can find percentage around the outside without too much trouble, yet the route toward the Town Hall still requires a meaningful commitment.

The left edge, roughly around eight or nine o’clock, is the first place I would scout. There are enough exterior buildings to shape a funnel without using a large part of the army, and the wall structure gives a believable route toward the core. It feels like the most comfortable starting point on the map.

Comfortable does not necessarily mean safe.

If too much of that side is cleared, the funnel can become wider than intended. A heavy ground group may start moving toward the center while the Queen or supporting troops continue along the outside. For the first part of the attack, that split can actually look useful. Multiple buildings disappear at the same time, percentage climbs quickly, and the army still appears healthy.

The problem shows up when the main force reaches the Town Hall area.

At that point, a Rage, Heal, Freeze, Overgrowth, or another control spell is much more valuable when most troops are fighting in one place. If the army has already separated into two groups, spell efficiency drops. The attacker may still take the Town Hall, but the back end becomes much harder to finish cleanly.

That is why I would expect a narrow left-side funnel to be more dangerous to this base than a full-width spam attack. Root Riders or another heavy ground smash army should have enough strength to cross the wall network. The bigger challenge is keeping tanks, heroes, healers, and support troops together once they enter the compact core.

The central defensive concentration creates an interesting tradeoff. Several important defenses are close enough together that they can apply serious pressure to a poorly organized attack. On the other hand, that same concentration gives a skilled attacker potentially excellent spell value.

This is probably the layout’s clearest weakness.

If the army reaches the middle with several spells still available, one well-timed control sequence could reduce the impact of multiple defenses at once. A Freeze covering a critical threat while a Rage supports the main push can dramatically change the fight. The base therefore benefits when the attacker is forced to spend spells early.

A messy funnel helps the defense. A clean entry helps the attacker.

Queen Charge Hybrid could be one of the better ways to control the opening. A Queen starting from the left may be able to remove one defensive pocket and clear the buildings most likely to pull Miners and Hog Riders away from the intended path. If the Queen stays on course, the Hybrid phase gets a more predictable route into the core.

The obvious risk is time. Queen Charges have a habit of losing seconds in places that seemed harmless during planning. One outside building can send the Queen farther around the edge. A stubborn high-hitpoint target may slow the charge. The attack can still be strong, but Ranked layouts often punish those delays because percentage and cleanup matter just as much as reaching the Town Hall.

The Town Hall’s slight right-side offset reinforces that point. A player coming from the left can collect some useful percentage on the way in, but the objective is not sitting at the end of a perfectly straight lane. Going directly for the Town Hall may leave several buildings alive elsewhere. Taking extra time to clear those buildings first creates a cleaner back end, but it keeps the core active longer.

That tension is one of the reasons Layout #7 makes sense for Ranked use.

Air armies also have realistic options. The Air Defenses and Inferno Towers do not sit in one tidy group, so an attacker cannot simply remove one section and assume the rest of the base is solved. The spacing forces a choice about which threat deserves attention first.

Dragons could be effective from the left after a proper funnel. I would expect a tighter deployment to perform better than spreading them across the entire edge. A wide Dragon line may send some units around exterior buildings while the stronger group goes toward the core. That weakens the Town Hall push at the exact point where the defensive pressure becomes heavier.

LavaLoon provides more precise control over individual targets, but it requires a clearer sequence. Removing one Air Defense is only the beginning. The attacker still has to decide how to approach the Town Hall, which Inferno threat should be handled next, and where the surviving Balloons are supposed to finish.

What makes TH16 Ranked Layout #7 interesting is that its biggest strength and biggest weakness are almost the same thing. The compact center creates strong defensive pressure, but it can also reward an attacker who reaches it with the correct spells preserved.

The left edge is therefore the most important area to watch. A disciplined funnel from that side may open the core faster than intended. A careless one can split the army and force early spell use, which is exactly what the base wants.
