TH16 Ranked Base #27: Multi-Compartment Core with a Top-Side Entry and Awkward Cleanup

Town Hall 16 Ranked Layout #27 looks reasonably approachable from the top, but the center is much more complicated than the outer shape suggests. The Town Hall sits slightly left of the visual middle, surrounded by several connected compartments rather than one large open core. That placement creates a useful Ranked dilemma: the attacker can build a route toward the main objective, yet the same route may leave too many buildings alive for comfortable cleanup afterward.

The top edge, around eleven to one o’clock, is the first place I would inspect. There is enough space to remove a few exterior buildings and shape a funnel without committing the entire army immediately. It looks like the cleanest opening available, although I would be careful not to make the funnel too wide.

That is probably the biggest mistake this base is trying to encourage.

Once the upper buildings disappear, several compartments become available at almost the same time. A heavy ground army may begin moving toward the Town Hall while the Queen, support troops, or part of the main force drifts toward one of the side sections. For the first part of the attack, that separation can actually look productive. More defenses are falling, percentage rises quickly, and both groups may still be healthy.

The problem usually appears later.

When the main force reaches the Town Hall area, the supporting troops may no longer be close enough to benefit from the same spells. A Rage, Heal, Freeze, Overgrowth, or other control spell becomes less efficient when half of the army is fighting several compartments away. What started as a strong attack can turn into two smaller pushes, neither of which has the same momentum.

That is why a narrow top-side funnel looks more threatening to this layout than a broad spam attack. Root Riders or another heavy smash composition should have enough strength to cross the walls, so breaking into the base is probably not the hardest part. Keeping the army together through the multi-compartment core is more important.

If Root Riders, heroes, healers, and support units stay inside one controlled lane, the attacker may reach the Town Hall with plenty of spell support still available. If they split, the base gains time and defensive value without needing to stop the army outright.

Queen Charge Hybrid is another realistic counter. A Queen starting near the top could remove one defensive pocket first and clear buildings that might otherwise drag Miners and Hog Riders away from the center. That would create a more predictable route toward the objective.

The downside is time. A Queen that follows an outside building, takes an unexpected wall route, or spends longer than planned on a high-hitpoint target can delay the Hybrid phase. The Town Hall may still fall, but the opposite compartments could remain alive long enough to make the final thirty seconds uncomfortable.

That timing pressure is especially relevant in Ranked play. A player may reach strong percentage and secure the Town Hall, yet still lose efficiency because cleanup troops finish on the wrong side of the village. This base does not necessarily need to destroy the entire army. It can defend simply by making the surviving troops travel too far between the final buildings.

The Town Hall’s slight left-side offset contributes to that problem. A top entry can be shaped toward the objective, but the army does not naturally pass through every important section on the way. A player who focuses heavily on the Town Hall may leave the right or lower compartments relatively healthy. Clearing those sections first improves percentage, but it also delays the objective phase and gives the central defenses more time to work.

Air attackers face a different version of the same route problem. The Air Defenses appear spread across opposite sections of the base rather than concentrated into one easy cluster, while the Inferno Towers support separate paths into the core. That means one early spell sequence is unlikely to solve every major air threat.

Dragons could potentially attack from the top after the funnel is prepared. I would expect a tighter deployment to perform better than a wide line. If Dragons are spread across too much of the upper edge, some may follow outside buildings while the stronger group moves into the central compartments. The core then gets to fight only part of the army at once.

LavaLoon offers more precise control over individual defenses, but it requires a clearer sequence. Removing the first Air Defense does not appear to unlock the whole village. The attacker still has to decide how to move through the Town Hall area, which Inferno threat comes next, and where the Balloons should finish.

What makes Layout #27 convincing as a Ranked base is the separation between objective access and comfortable percentage. The top side gives the attacker a believable start, but a good beginning does not guarantee a clean finish. The multi-compartment heart can redirect troops, stretch spell coverage, and leave cleanup spread across several sections.

There is an obvious weakness. A disciplined attacker who keeps the top funnel narrow and enters with most of the army together may be able to open the central area faster than intended. Queen Charge Hybrid and compact Root Rider attacks seem particularly well suited to testing that route.

Still, the layout does not depend on one hidden trick. Its defense comes from pathing decisions, separated air threats, a slightly offset Town Hall, and the time needed to move from the objective into the remaining compartments.
