TH18 Farming Base #1: Broken-Ring Resource Defense with an Upper-Right Funnel
Town Hall 18 Farming Layout #1 is built around a broken-ring structure rather than a simple square or fully enclosed diamond. That difference is easy to miss at first because the village still looks compact from the outside. Once you follow the walls, though, several separate lanes appear around the center. The Town Hall sits slightly above the visual midpoint, while Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir value is spread through different sections instead of being stacked along one convenient route.
For a farming base, that separation is probably its most useful feature. An attacker may get into one resource compartment without too much trouble, but the next valuable target does not always sit directly behind it. A quick raid could collect outside buildings, reach one storage, and still finish nowhere near the remaining loot. The layout seems less interested in making the first entry impossible and more interested in making the second half of the raid awkward.
The upper-right edge, around one or two o’clock, looks like the most practical place to start. There is room to clear a couple of outside structures and establish a controlled lane toward the middle. I would be careful not to clear the whole corner, though. Because of the broken-ring shape, opening too much space can actually give troops more reasons to move sideways.
Imagine a heavy ground army entering from that side. Root Riders may head toward the inner defenses while the Queen keeps following buildings along the right edge. For the first part of the attack, both groups could look productive. Percentage is going up, defenses are falling, and nothing seems badly wrong. The problem becomes noticeable later, when the main group needs hero support near the Town Hall while the Queen is still working through an outside compartment.
That is why a controlled entry is probably more dangerous than a wide spam attack. If the attacker removes only the buildings needed to break the ring and force troops inward, the path toward the core becomes much cleaner. Root Riders or another heavy smash army could exploit that opening because wall depth alone is unlikely to stop them for very long.
A wider deployment may actually help the base. Once troops begin following different sections of the ring, spell value drops. A Rage, Heal, Freeze, or other control spell can support one group well, but not two groups fighting several tiles apart. Even a powerful army may then reach the Town Hall with less strength than expected.
Queen Charge Hybrid is another reasonable counter. A Queen starting from the upper-right could remove an outer defensive pocket and shut down one part of the ring before Miners and Hog Riders enter. That would make the main route more predictable. The downside is time. If the Queen walks farther around the edge than planned or spends too long on a high-hitpoint building, the Hybrid portion could start late, leaving the opposite resource sections difficult to finish.
Air attacks face a similar movement problem. The Air Defenses appear to cover different approach lanes rather than being concentrated on one side, while the Inferno Towers sit deeper as separate anchors. Dragons may find a workable entry from the upper-right, especially after both sides of the funnel are shaped, but spreading them across too wide an area could cause part of the group to circle the perimeter.
LavaLoon provides better control over individual defensive targets, although the attacker would still need to plan beyond the first Air Defense. Removing one threat does not seem to expose the whole village immediately. The remaining defenses and storages continue around different sections of the broken ring, so the second half of the attack matters just as much as the opening.
What makes this layout feel genuinely suited to farming is that the resources are not presented as one package. A player who wants the Town Hall may not naturally pass through every storage, while someone focused on loot could spend extra time travelling around the ring before reaching the main objective. That tradeoff can be useful during ordinary farming defenses.
