TH18 Ranked Base #8: The Inviting Top Entry and Split-Core Finish

Town Hall 18 Ranked Layout #8 has the kind of top edge that almost asks to be attacked. There is enough open space to set a funnel, the first layer looks readable, and the route toward the Town Hall seems more direct than it does from the other sides. That first impression is useful, but probably incomplete. Once troops move past the outer buildings, the base stops behaving like a straight lane and starts pulling the army through several connected compartments.

The Town Hall sits a little to the right of the core rather than perfectly in the center. That placement creates an awkward decision. An attacker can aim directly at the objective from the top, but doing so may leave important defenses active on the left and lower sides. Spending too much time clearing those sections first could make the attack slow from the beginning. In Ranked play, where time and percentage matter alongside stars, that tradeoff can ruin an otherwise solid hit.

The top edge still appears to be the most practical entry. I would trim the upper-left and upper-right corners with small groups, then send the main army through a narrow section rather than covering the whole side. The temptation is to create a wide funnel because the opening looks generous. That may be the trap. If too many buildings are removed at once, tanks can move toward the Town Hall while heroes and support troops drift into neighboring compartments. For a few seconds, everything may look fine. Then spells start covering only half the army.

Ground smash armies should be able to test this layout. Root Riders or another heavy composition have enough strength to cross walls and absorb pressure, but they still need controlled pathing. The multi-compartment core offers several junctions where the front line can turn away from the support behind it. A Rage, Heal, Freeze, or Overgrowth used in the right place could carry the push through the middle. Used early to rescue a poor entry, the same spell may be missing when the Town Hall area becomes most dangerous.

Queen Charge Hybrid gives the attacker more control, although it is not necessarily the easiest answer. A Queen Charge from the top could remove one side of the funnel, take out a key defense, and create a cleaner route for Miners and Hog Riders. The risk is the clock. A stubborn storage, an unexpected wall choice, or defensive Clan Castle troops may delay the charge. Starting the Hybrid phase even fifteen seconds late could leave the lower edge unfinished.

Air attacks face a different problem. The Air Defenses and Inferno Towers are spread rather than grouped into one obvious spell zone. Dragons may still work from the top if both corners are shaped carefully, but a broad deployment could send several around the outside. LavaLoon offers better targeting control, though the attacker needs a clear order for the central threats and a plan for the defenses behind the Town Hall.

What makes this layout suited to Ranked play is not one overwhelming defense. It is the way the base combines an inviting opening with an awkward finish. The top edge can provide early percentage and a believable route to the Town Hall, yet the army may leave the core in smaller groups. Cleanup then becomes a separate problem, especially if buildings survive on both lower corners.
