TH18 Ranked Base #10: Why the Left Entry Is Tempting but Not Simple

A quick look at Town Hall 18 Ranked Layout #10 suggests a compact square base with no obvious weak corner. Spend another minute tracing the walls, though, and the left side begins to stand out. It offers the cleanest space for funneling, while the Town Hall sits slightly right of center. That combination invites an attack from nine o’clock, but it does not promise a simple route through the rest of the base.

I would start by clearing only enough of the upper-left and lower-left edges to define one lane. Taking every outside building may feel safe, yet it could open the entry too far. Once several compartments become available, tanks may head toward the middle while heroes or support troops drift upward or downward. The attack can still look healthy at that stage, which is what makes the split easy to miss.

The square core creates the next problem. Important buildings are packed into a relatively tight area, but the walls break that area into short sections rather than one open room. Ground troops can enter quickly and still lose direction after the first wall. Root Riders, Yetis, or another heavy smash army should have enough force to cross the layout. The more difficult task is keeping the front line, heroes, healers, and ranged support close enough to benefit from the same spells.

That is also why the center may be both the base’s strength and its clearest weakness. Several high-value defenses appear close enough for one well-placed Rage, Freeze, Overgrowth, or similar spell to influence multiple targets. An attacker who reaches that zone with a full army could swing the battle in seconds. On the other hand, a poor funnel may force those spells to be used before the core, removing the advantage entirely.

Queen Charge Hybrid gives the attacker more control over the setup. A Queen could begin along the left edge, remove one compartment, and reduce the number of buildings competing for her attention. Miners and Hog Riders would then have a narrower route toward the Town Hall and central defenses. The plan is attractive, but timing is tight. A wrong wall break, a long stop on a storage, or defensive Clan Castle troops could delay the Hybrid phase enough to make cleanup uncomfortable.

Dragon and LavaLoon attacks approach the problem differently. The Air Defenses and Inferno Towers are not arranged as one tidy group, so an air player has to choose which section to control first. Dragons may work if the left funnel is sharp and the line of deployment stays narrow. Spread them too widely, and several could circle the outside while the main group fights alone near the Town Hall. LavaLoon offers more precise targeting, although it requires a clear plan for the right-side back end.

The most convincing feature of this layout is how it pressures several Ranked goals at the same time. Securing the Town Hall is only one part of the attack. The player also needs percentage, enough surviving force for cleanup, and a route that does not waste the final thirty seconds. An early lead can disappear quickly if the army separates around the compact center.
