TH18 Ranked Base #20: An Easy Opening with a Difficult Finish

The bottom of Town Hall 18 Ranked Layout #20 looks friendly, almost deliberately so. There is room to begin a funnel, outside buildings can be collected early, and the route toward the center seems readable. Once the attack moves past that first layer, however, the picture changes. The Town Hall sits a little right of center, and the surrounding compartments do not create one clean lane leading straight to it.

That offset is important. A push from six o’clock may begin well, then lean toward the right as troops choose defenses and storages. Meanwhile, heroes or cleanup units can drift left. The result is not always an immediate disaster. More often, it becomes one of those attacks that reaches eighty or ninety percent and still runs out of time with a few buildings standing on opposite sides.

Walls form a chain of compartments. Some sections connect naturally; others create awkward turns around the middle. This may be troublesome for Root Riders and other heavy ground armies. They can cross walls, but supporting units may not follow the same route. If the funnel is too wide, the tanks move forward while healers, heroes, or ranged troops get pulled into a neighboring lane.

If I were scouting this base, I would start by comparing two lower-side entries rather than committing immediately. One option would be a narrow push from the bottom-right, aiming to meet the Town Hall’s offset. The other would begin closer to the bottom-left and use a hero or small group to remove buildings that might drag the main army sideways. Both approaches have merit, but neither looks completely safe from the screenshot.

Queen Charge Hybrid is probably the most controlled counter. A Queen Charge could trim one lower compartment, deal with a key defense, and leave Miners and Hog Riders a simpler route through the interior. The catch is time. If the Queen spends too long on a storage, changes direction after a wall break, or gets distracted by defensive troops, the Hybrid phase may start late. This layout appears happy to trade space for seconds.

Air attacks face a real inconvenience. The Air Defenses and Inferno Towers are separated rather than arranged in one neat cluster. That makes it harder to gain perfect value from a single Freeze, Rage, or early removal. Dragons may still work from the lower edge after the corners are shaped, although a broad line could encourage several of them to circle. LavaLoon offers finer control, but the attacker would need a clear sequence for the central threats and the back end.

The base’s weakness may also be its invitation. Because the bottom edge offers accessible percentage, a patient player can build momentum without taking heavy losses immediately. The danger is assuming that early progress means the rest will be simple. Once the army enters the multi-compartment core, cleanup and objective security can become separate jobs.

That is why the Ranked tag makes sense. The layout appears designed to protect trophies by turning a comfortable opening into an uncomfortable finish. It may allow the Town Hall to fall while still denying a full clear. Root Rider smash, Queen Charge Hybrid, Dragons, and LavaLoon all look plausible, but none should be treated as a guaranteed answer.
