TH13 Farming Base #12: Layered-Square Defense Built Around Resource Preservation

TH13 Farming Layout #12 uses a layered-square structure with the Town Hall protected near the center, behind the main storage line. Looking at the base itself, the design feels compact without becoming one giant central box. Valuable buildings are divided between several adjoining compartments, while the strongest defenses sit where they can support more than one resource pocket.

That is what makes this layout interesting as a farming defense. It does not appear obsessed with saving one particular building. Instead, it tries to make large-scale loot loss happen slowly, forcing a raid to work through the village in stages.

The storages add another layer around the core

The Gold and Elixir Storages are spread across the inner compartments rather than grouped into one convenient cluster.

From a defensive point of view, this is important for two reasons. First, losing one storage does not immediately expose every other valuable resource. Second, the storages themselves have enough durability to keep troops occupied while nearby defenses continue firing.

That creates a useful buffer around the Town Hall.

I think this is one of the stronger parts of Layout #12. A section can be breached without the whole resource network collapsing at once. Even if one side starts to fall, another storage pocket still has walls and active defensive coverage protecting it.

Layered squares create repeated defensive stops

The wall pattern is fairly dense, with several square and rectangular compartments surrounding the central area.

Rather than relying on one thick wall line, the defense creates multiple transitions. Troops entering one compartment still have to cross another defensive boundary before reaching the next important section.

Those transitions can become valuable late in a raid. Even surviving troops may lose time changing targets or moving between compartments, giving Infernos, X-Bows, Scattershots, and other defenses extra firing opportunities.

For farming protection, that kind of delay may matter more than trying to completely shut down the opening.

Air and Inferno pressure is deliberately staggered

The Air Defenses appear to provide coverage from several different parts of the core, while the Inferno Towers act as separate high-value defensive anchors.

That spacing helps avoid one obvious weakness: losing too much defensive pressure at the same time.

If one section of the base is compromised, another can remain dangerous around a different storage pocket. The layout therefore keeps its defensive value distributed rather than placing everything in one compact spell zone.

This also supports the farming concept. One area can fall without automatically making the rest of the village easy to clear.

The left edge is the main structural concern

The left edge appears to offer the clearest route into the structure.

The real defensive concern is a disciplined corner funnel that creates a relatively straight path through two wall layers. If that side opens too cheaply, some of the travel distance built into the layered-square design disappears.

That makes the left-side compartments especially important. Ideally, they should consume time, hero health, abilities, or troop strength before the deeper resource area comes under serious pressure.

The defense does not need an instant stop. Making the first breakthrough expensive is already useful.

Why Layout #12 works for Farming

The strongest quality of TH13 Farming Base #12 is its emphasis on resource preservation across several compartments rather than protection of one perfectly central objective.

The Town Hall sits behind the main storage line, resource buildings occupy different paths, and the layered walls keep separate defensive pockets relevant throughout the raid.
