TH14 Ranked Base #2: Multi-Compartment Defense Built Around Percentage and Pathing Control
TH14 Ranked Layout #2 uses a multi-compartment defensive structure with the Town Hall sitting slightly left of the geometric center of the core. After examining the actual layout, what stands out most is how evenly the defensive responsibility is spread. There is no single compartment doing all the work. Instead, the Town Hall, Inferno Towers, Air Defenses, X-Bows, Scattershots, and supporting defenses occupy different sections of the village.
That gives this base a clear Ranked identity. It appears designed to keep pressure on stars, percentage, troop movement, and the clock rather than simply making the Town Hall difficult to reach.
The Town Hall anchors the core without becoming the whole defense
The Town Hall sits deep enough inside the central network to require a serious commitment, but several important defenses remain outside its immediate compartment.
That is valuable defensively.
Even if the Town Hall area eventually falls, the rest of the village can still retain meaningful firepower. A raid that looks successful through the middle may discover that several untouched defensive pockets remain around the outer half.
The slight Town Hall offset also makes the core less predictable. Troops leaving the central zone may not naturally continue toward the same side, which can create awkward cleanup positions later.
The compartments are built to break troop concentration
The walls form a mixture of medium-sized boxes and narrow connecting sections.
Their purpose seems less about physically stopping troops and more about influencing where those troops go next. Once several targets become available, different parts of an attacking formation can begin drifting into neighboring compartments.
For the defense, that is exactly the kind of movement Layout #2 wants.
Yeti or Bowler Smash formations are much more dangerous when tanks, heroes, and support troops remain together. If the base pulls those units apart, defensive towers get longer firing windows and shared spell support becomes less efficient.
Queen Charge Hybrid can create different pressure, but the same principle applies: removing one section does not automatically make the next compartment harmless.
Air and Inferno pressure comes from separate zones
The anti-air network is spread across opposite sections of the village, while the Inferno Towers support different routes into the core.
That spacing prevents the defense from presenting one convenient high-value cluster.
Against Dragons or LavaLoon, one air-defense lane may weaken while another remains active farther across the base. The surviving air defenses can continue protecting percentage and slowing the later stages of the raid.
This staggered coverage gives the layout more defensive endurance.
The top edge is deliberately easier to read
The top edge appears to be the most approachable side, but that does not necessarily make it poorly defended.
For Ranked play, allowing some early percentage can actually create pressure elsewhere. A wide formation may start separating between neighboring compartments before reaching the stronger central section.
That troop split is useful for the defense because surviving units can end up clearing different parts of the village at different speeds.
The main structural concern is the opposite situation: if the opening stays extremely compact and organized, some of the layout's pathing disruption disappears.
Why Layout #2 fits Ranked defense
The strength of TH14 Ranked Base #2 is the separation between the main objective and comfortable cleanup.
Its slightly offset Town Hall contests stars, the compartment network disrupts troop movement, staggered Air Defenses and Infernos maintain pressure, and the outer sections can keep percentage relevant late into the raid.
