TH14 Ranked Base #14: Compact-Square Defense Built Around Central Pressure

TH14 Ranked Layout #14 uses a compact-square defensive structure with the Town Hall sitting slightly toward the right side of the core. After studying the actual layout, the design appears to favor concentrated defensive pressure rather than extreme compartment depth. Several important defenses sit close enough to support one another, while the outer sections remain more open and spread out.

That combination makes sense for Ranked play. The layout can concede a few outside buildings without immediately losing control of the raid. Its real defensive value starts when troops move toward the center, where stars, percentage, and remaining time begin competing at once.

The Town Hall anchors the main pressure zone

The Town Hall sits inside the primary defensive network rather than being isolated on an outer edge.

Around it, several high-value defenses create a compact central fighting area. This means troops reaching the core are likely to face overlapping pressure instead of dealing with one defense at a time.

The slight Town Hall offset also keeps the center from feeling completely symmetrical. That may cause troops approaching from different sides to leave the core on different paths, which can make later cleanup less predictable.

The defense is not relying on one building surviving forever. It is trying to make the entire central phase expensive.

Compact compartments reward concentrated defensive fire

The wall structure creates relatively short transitions between important sections.

Compared with a wider base, troops have less empty space to cross, but they also reach multiple defensive threats quickly. This allows Infernos, X-Bows, and nearby defenses to apply pressure at roughly the same stage of the raid.

From the defender's perspective, this is useful against Yeti or Bowler Smash formations. Those armies are strongest when the main force stays together. If different targets pull part of the formation sideways, the compact defensive network gets more time to isolate smaller groups.

Queen Charge Hybrid faces a similar defensive problem: removing one compartment does not necessarily silence everything protecting the Town Hall.

Air coverage remains divided between several threats

The Air Defenses and Inferno Towers are not arranged as one neat cluster.

That spacing forces air armies such as Dragons or LavaLoon to remain under pressure from different parts of the village. One defensive section can fall while another continues protecting the core or the remaining percentage.

This distributed coverage is important because it prevents the entire air defense from depending on one zone.

Central spell value is the main structural risk

The same compactness that gives Layout #14 strong defensive overlap also creates its clearest weakness.

Several important defenses can potentially fall within the influence of spells used around the same central area. If too much defensive value is controlled at once, the core may lose pressure faster than intended.

That makes exact defensive spacing and hidden trap placement especially important here.

The layout benefits when the attacker has to choose which threat to suppress first rather than controlling several of them together.

The right edge needs to slow early progress

The right edge appears to be the easiest side of the structure to approach.

Defensively, this section should make the opening cost something—time, hero health, abilities, or troop strength. It does not need to stop the raid immediately. The real goal is making sure the strongest part of the army does not arrive at the compact core completely untouched.

Why Layout #14 works for Ranked

The identity of TH14 Ranked Base #14 comes from maintaining pressure on three things at the same time: stars, percentage, and the clock.
