TH18 Farming Base #5: Broken-Ring Resource Defense with an Upper-Right Entry
Town Hall 18 Farming Layout #5 has a more crowded, less predictable shape than a typical storage-diamond base. The walls do not form one perfectly clean square around the Town Hall. Instead, they create a broken-ring structure with several smaller compartments feeding into the center. That may look slightly messy at first, but for a farming layout it has a useful purpose: Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir are not all sitting along the same easy path.
The Town Hall is positioned a little below the visual center. That placement changes how an attacker is likely to approach the village. A player who wants the Town Hall quickly may prefer a lower-side route, but doing that does not naturally pass through every important storage. Coming from the opposite direction gives access to more resource value first, although the Town Hall becomes a later objective.
From the screenshot, the upper-right edge around one or two o’clock looks like the most comfortable place to build a funnel. There are enough outside structures to shape the entry without spending too much of the army before the main push begins. I would not clear the entire corner, though. This is one of those layouts where creating an overly generous funnel may actually make troop movement less predictable.
Once the first section falls, several buildings become available at similar distances. A Root Rider group could turn inward while the Queen or ranged support continues along the right edge. For a while, both groups may be doing useful work, so the attacker might not immediately realize that the formation has broken apart. The problem usually becomes obvious later, when the main force reaches the Town Hall area and the heroes are still fighting somewhere around the ring.
That makes a controlled upper-right entry one of the most believable counters. Rather than clearing half the edge, a patient attacker could remove only the buildings required to interrupt the ring and create one clear lane toward the center. Root Riders or another heavy ground smash army would be dangerous in that situation because the walls themselves are unlikely to hold those troops for long.
The real defensive question is whether the base can make the army turn before it reaches every valuable target.
A wide smash attack may actually play into the layout’s strengths. If tanks enter one compartment while support troops drift into another, Rage, Heal, Freeze, or other control spells become harder to use efficiently. Instead of supporting one strong group, the attacker is forced to choose which half of the army deserves the spell.
Queen Charge Hybrid is another reasonable option. A Queen beginning from the upper-right could clear part of the outer ring, remove one defensive pocket, and reduce the number of possible routes before Miners and Hog Riders are deployed. That sounds cleaner than a full spam attack, but it introduces time pressure. An unexpected Queen walk or a slow high-hitpoint building could delay the Hybrid portion enough that the lower resource compartments become difficult to finish.
Air armies face their own version of the same problem. The Air Defenses are spread around different inner sections rather than grouped into one obvious side, while the Inferno Towers are separated to reduce easy multi-target spell value. Dragons may still work from the upper-right if both sides of the funnel are prepared carefully. Deploy them too widely, however, and part of the army could follow the broken ring instead of moving into the core.
LavaLoon offers finer control over defensive targets, but the attacker would need to think beyond the first Air Defense. Removing one section does not appear to open the whole village. The remaining air threats and resource compartments still sit on different routes, which makes the second half of the attack just as important as the opening.
From a farming perspective, the most useful feature is the distance between the important resource pockets. A fast raid may collect one storage, several collectors, and a decent amount of percentage without reaching everything else. Even a successful Town Hall takedown does not guarantee that the attacker will naturally travel through every remaining storage.
That is a practical farming goal. The base does not need to defend every drop of loot against a fully prepared TH18 army. It only needs to make a complete resource sweep inconvenient enough that hurried or poorly planned attacks leave something behind.
The obvious concern is the upper-right entry. If experienced attackers repeatedly cut the broken ring from that side and keep the entire army moving together, the core could become easier to reach than intended. Still, the route requires more control than simple spam, and that gives the design some defensive value.
