TH18 Clan War Base #1: Top-Side Funnel and Offset Town Hall Pressure

The top edge of Town Hall 18 Clan War Layout #1 looks almost too polite. There is space to place funnel troops, several outside buildings can be reached without much commitment, and the first wall line does not immediately scream danger. That makes twelve o’clock the obvious scouting point. It may also be the side most likely to lure an attacker into starting too quickly.

This is a multi-compartment base rather than a simple box. Once troops move beyond the top layer, they meet short wall sections, offset junctions, and several targets at similar distances. One army can quickly become two smaller groups. The main force may continue toward the middle while heroes or support units turn into a neighboring compartment. The attack can still look healthy, which is why the mistake is easy to miss until spell coverage starts helping only half the troops.

The Town Hall is positioned slightly toward the right side of the core. It is reachable from the top, but it does not sit at the end of one straight corridor. An attacker has a real choice: shape the push directly toward the objective, or take a wider route that removes more defenses first. The first plan is safer for securing stars. The second may create a better triple attempt, although it uses more time and gives pathing more chances to go wrong.

I would keep the funnel narrow, roughly between eleven and one o’clock. Clearing both top corners too deeply could expose several compartments at once. Tanks might lean toward the Town Hall while the Queen, Warden, or ranged support follows buildings on the opposite side. That is awkward in Clan War, where a strong opening means little if the army leaves the core in separate pieces.

Root Riders or another heavy ground smash army appear capable of testing this layout. They should have enough strength to cross the walls and absorb early pressure. The harder job is keeping support close. A compact entry lets Rage, Heal, Freeze, or Overgrowth spells cover most of the push. If the army spreads across two lanes, the attacker may spend spells early just to restore control, leaving fewer answers for the defenses beyond the Town Hall.

Queen Charge Hybrid offers a slower but more deliberate option. The Queen could start along one top corner, remove a defensive pocket, and close a side lane before Miners and Hog Riders are released. In theory, that creates a cleaner route through the center. In practice, the charge may be sensitive to timing. An unexpected wall choice, a stubborn storage, or defending Clan Castle troops could delay the Hybrid phase enough to make the lower compartments difficult to finish.

Air armies face a different problem. The Air Defenses are spread across opposite sections, while the Inferno Towers appear to cover separate routes instead of forming one tidy spell target. Dragons may work from the top after the corners are shaped, but a wide deployment could send several around the outside. LavaLoon gives the attacker more control over targeting, although it needs a clear sequence for the core and the right-side Town Hall area.

What makes this base suitable for Clan War is the decision it forces after the opening. Reaching the Town Hall seems possible; reaching it with enough army left for the back end is less certain. A cautious player may secure two stars but leave valuable defenses standing. An aggressive player may preserve more strength for the finish and risk losing control around the offset core.
