Compact Multi-Compartment Clan War Base Analysis

At first look the Clan War layout appears to be compact, but it's not simply based on a box shape. The walls form a number of irregular compartments surrounding a closely defended centre, which gives the design a diamond-like arrangement. This is important since attackers cannot send all their troops in a single straight line and expect the army to remain united. If the troops are rushed into position they might split up at the first wall junction, some of the army moving round the outside while the main body goes into the centre.

The Town Hall is situated near the centre of the layout and is surrounded by wall layers, strong defences, and a number of buildings which make it difficult to target. It should not be possible to reach it by simply taking the easy route in; ground forces will probably take some time to break through the various compartments before they get there, and the air forces have to contend with overlapping defensive coverage in the central area. The two defensive structures that glow blue and are located on opposite sides of the core also seem to be placed in such a way as to support the central region rather than merely defending one flank.

A good feature is the way the game manages pathing: instead of having a single large open area, the interior is split up into small sections. When buildings push units such as Root Riders, Yetis, Bowlers, or other smash-type units to the side, these troops may move in an unpredictable manner. It will be essential to have a well-designed funnel. If there is no such funnel, heroes could move along the outer lane while the main army advances elsewhere, a situation which frequently results in a low-probability attack or a time failure.

The outer buildings are arranged around the base rather than being packed together in a tidy ring. As a result, the overall layout appears less neat, although this could be deliberate. In order to carry out an attack, one has to use either troops or hero time to clear off both sides of the selected entrance; furthermore, the buildings close to the corners can also cause problems when it comes to the cleanup, particularly if the main force reaches the centre late. Yet since the outside isn't heavily defended, a careful attacker might be able to set up a controlled funnel before launching the full army.

With regard to air attacks, the arrangement seems to depend on having layered defence rather than putting all the important defences in a single area. The defensive buildings are spread out around the core and situated along various compartments, which might make it more difficult to destroy them all with a single early spell combination. Electro Dragons might have trouble if the gaps between the buildings stop chain damage from being sustained. On the other hand, a more accurate air attack could be useful by first eliminating one side and then having the Balloons or Dragons go through the centre.

The most natural route seems to be either from the upper-right corner or from the lower side, in which case an attacker could attempt to establish a narrow path leading to the Town Hall. However, neither of these options is entirely safe. The upper-right area has sufficient defensive strength to penalise a slow advance, while the lower side might cause the troops to be spread out over a number of targets. It would be possible to gain some advantage through a Queen Charge or a hero dive, but this would require careful support and precise spell timing.

This base is most appropriate for those playing in Clan War or the CWL who favour a compact anti-three-star layout with difficult pathing. The key advantages of this design are the central Town Hall, the layered compartments, extensive defensive coverage, and the difficulty of clearing it. The probable weakness, however, is a well-organised attack that eliminates one flank, sets up a disciplined funnel, and then enters the core with sufficient forces still alive.

The analysis here is based solely on the visible layout, since the real performance will be influenced by hidden traps, defensive troops, the equipment of the hero, balance changes, and the skill of the attacker. The best approach is to test the base in Friendly Challenges in order to determine the strongest entry points before using it in a significant war, rather than depending on first impressions.
