Three Major Clash of Clans Changes Are Being Rumored — But How Real Are They?
A Clash of Clans post has been making the rounds lately, and it claims that three fairly big changes could be coming to the game. The rumored list includes the ability to rename clans, some kind of rework involving the Pet House and Laboratory, and a brand-new Elephant Rider troop.
On paper, that sounds like a strong update. Clan leaders have been asking for a rename option for years, and a huge elephant charging toward defenses would obviously get people talking. Still, there is a reason to be careful here: none of these changes currently appear in Supercell’s official Clash of Clans news archive.
That does not prove the post is fake. It could be an early concept, a fan-made prediction, a rough translation, or information taken out of context. For now, though, it is safer to treat all three ideas as rumors. Supercell’s latest official July communication focused on Town Hall 18 balance changes and described the update as a smaller release between larger ones. There was no mention of clan renaming, a Pet House merger, or an Elephant Rider. (Supercell)
Clan Name Changes May Finally Happen
The first rumored feature would allow clan leaders to change the name of their clan.
It is probably the least dramatic item on the list, yet it may be the most useful. Plenty of clans were created years ago with random names, old jokes, spelling mistakes, or references that no longer mean anything. A group may have grown into a serious Clan War League community while still carrying a name chosen by someone at 2 a.m. in 2016.
Right now, changing that identity usually means starting a new clan. That is a painful option because players would lose clan levels, perks, war history, capital progress, and years of recognition.
A proper rename system could fix this, although Supercell would almost certainly need limits. A Gem cost would make sense. So would a long cooldown and rules preventing players from copying the names of well-known clans. Since repeated player-name changes already become more expensive and include waiting periods, a similar model could work here. (Supercell)
Personally, I think clan renaming is overdue. Clans are no longer just temporary groups for donations. Many now have Discord servers, competitive teams, social media pages, and long-standing communities built around them.
Could the Pet House and Laboratory Be Merged?
The second rumor is harder to interpret. The circulating post suggests that the Pet House and Laboratory may be combined, with pets no longer needing a Builder and both buildings somehow being upgraded together.
That wording feels a little unclear. The Laboratory handles troop, spell, and Siege Machine research, while the Pet House is used to unlock, assign, and upgrade Hero Pets. The Pet House first arrived with Town Hall 14 and has always operated as its own progression system. (Supercell)
Combining both buildings might reduce clutter in high-level villages, but it could also create an awkward bottleneck. Many players upgrade a pet while researching a troop at the same time. If a merged building forced both systems to share one upgrade slot, the change might actually slow progression.
A more realistic possibility would be a shared interface rather than a full merger. The buildings could remain separate in function while being managed from one menu. Supercell has already shown that it is willing to combine buildings at higher Town Hall levels, so the broader idea is not impossible. Town Hall 16 introduced merged defenses, and Town Hall 17 combined the Town Hall with the Eagle Artillery. (Supercell)
The Rumored Elephant Rider
The Elephant Rider is easily the most attention-grabbing part of the rumor.
According to the description being shared, the elephant would act as a heavy ground tank that targets defenses. After the elephant is defeated, the rider would jump off and continue fighting alone.
That mechanic sounds familiar. The Super Hog Rider already separates into two units after defeat, with the Hog and Rider continuing independently. (Supercell)
Even so, an Elephant Rider could feel different if it were slower, much tougher, and capable of damaging several nearby defenses. It might work as a frontline troop that absorbs fire while Heroes and ranged units follow behind.
Balance would be the difficult part. Clash of Clans already has several durable ground units, including Golems and Root Riders. A new tank needs a clear purpose. Simply giving it more health and damage than existing options would likely push older troops out of the meta.
What Should Players Believe?
At the moment, none of these changes should be treated as confirmed.
Clan renaming sounds believable and useful. The Pet House and Laboratory idea may be based on a real concept, but the details are too vague. The Elephant Rider feels plausible as a troop design, though it may just be community artwork or speculation.
The ideas are still worth discussing. Clan renaming would probably affect the most players, while the Elephant Rider would create the most excitement. The building rework could be helpful—or frustrating—depending on how it handles upgrade slots.
Until Supercell publishes patch notes or official sneak peeks, screenshots alone are not enough. Rumors can be entertaining, but Clash of Clans updates only become real when the official reveal begins.
