TH13 Ranked Base #17: Offset-Diamond Defense Built Around Pathing and Percentage Control
TH13 Ranked Layout #17 uses an offset-diamond structure with the Town Hall sitting slightly toward the left side of the defensive core. Looking at the actual base first, the layout feels deliberately uneven. The Town Hall side carries heavy defensive value, while several independent compartments stretch toward the top, right, and lower portions of the village.
That gives the defense more than one job. It needs to protect the main objective, of course, but it also appears designed to make percentage expensive and keep surviving troops moving through awkward routes late in the raid.
The offset Town Hall prevents one clean central collapse
The Town Hall is protected inside the left-central defensive area rather than placed on the exact geometric center.
That small shift is useful.
If every important defense sat directly beside the Town Hall, one concentrated phase could potentially remove too much value at once. Here, several defensive pockets remain separated from the objective. Even if pressure reaches the Town Hall side, other sections can continue firing and protecting percentage.
From the defender's perspective, this creates a more gradual defense. One compartment can fall without the entire base losing shape.
The diamond compartments are built to disturb troop direction
The wall structure is probably the most important defensive feature of Layout #17.
Multiple rectangular and diamond-like compartments meet around the middle, giving attacking troops several possible targets once they move inside. That can stretch a formation across neighboring sections instead of allowing everything to stay concentrated.
This matters against Yeti or Bowler Smash-style armies. Those formations become much harder to defend when tanks, heroes, and support troops stay together. If the base pulls part of that group sideways while another section continues inward, defensive towers gain extra firing time.
The same principle applies to Queen Charge Hybrid: one successful compartment does not automatically mean the remaining core has been solved.
Air and Inferno coverage stays separated
The Air Defenses are spread around the inner compartments, while the Inferno Towers are positioned far enough apart to reduce easy single-spell value.
That spacing gives the base useful defensive endurance.
Against Dragons or LavaLoon, one air-pressure zone may weaken while another remains active elsewhere. Instead of depending on one compact air-defense cluster, Layout #17 tries to keep several lanes dangerous at different stages of the raid.
For Ranked play, that can matter because preserving even a small section of defenses may protect valuable percentage late.
The upper-left corner carries the main structural risk
The upper-left edge appears to be the easiest side to shape, and that matches the visible structure.
Defensively, the problem is not simply losing a corner. If that section disappears too cheaply, the shorter diagonal toward the core becomes easier to control. A Queen or hero operation that removes the corner efficiently could reduce some of the pathing uncertainty the offset diamond is supposed to create.
This makes the upper-left section especially important for trap pressure and overlapping defensive coverage. The goal does not necessarily need to be an immediate stop. Forcing extra time, hero health, or abilities may already make the deeper defense stronger.
Why Layout #17 fits Ranked defense
The strongest quality of TH13 Ranked Base #17 is the way it forces several priorities to compete.
The Town Hall pressures stars. The offset-diamond compartments interfere with troop concentration. Separated Infernos and Air Defenses preserve defensive pressure, while the wider outer sections can make percentage and cleanup increasingly uncomfortable.
