TH13 Ranked Base #21: Open-Ring Defense Built Around Percentage and Pathing Control

TH13 Ranked Layout #21 uses an open-ring structure with the Town Hall mildly offset toward the right side of the core. Looking carefully at the actual layout, the defensive idea seems to go beyond simply keeping the Town Hall standing. The base spreads important defenses through several inner pockets, while the surrounding compartments create enough competing routes to make troop movement increasingly awkward.

That suits Ranked defense well. A few outside buildings may fall without causing much damage to the defensive plan. The real objective appears to be controlling total percentage, troop concentration, and the time available for cleanup.

The Town Hall anchors a layered defensive core

The Town Hall sits inside the primary defensive network rather than being exposed near the perimeter. Its slight right-side offset also prevents the inner structure from feeling perfectly symmetrical.

That matters because troops approaching the core from different directions may not naturally continue along the same route afterward.

Several strong defenses remain active around the Town Hall without being squeezed into one tiny compartment. So even if one section is removed, the rest of the inner network can continue applying pressure.

The defense appears to work in stages: weaken troops on the way in, disrupt their formation around the ring, then make the final percentage increasingly expensive.

The open ring is the main pathing weapon

The wall structure is probably the most important part of Layout #21.

Several compartments wrap around the core, giving troops multiple attractive targets at similar distances. That may encourage one group to continue around the ring while another moves inward.

For the defender, that split can be extremely useful.

Yeti or Bowler Smash armies are most dangerous when heroes, tanks, and supporting troops remain together. Once the formation stretches across different compartments, defensive towers gain longer firing windows and shared spell value naturally falls.

Queen Charge Hybrid can create a different kind of pressure, but the defensive principle remains the same: the base wants the army clearing separate sections at different speeds rather than moving as one coordinated force.

Air and Inferno pressure stays distributed

The Air Defenses cover several different entry lanes, while the Inferno Towers function as separate inner anchors rather than one compact pair.

That spacing gives the layout more defensive endurance.

Against Dragons or LavaLoon, one air-defense section may begin to fail while another remains active farther across the ring. The base is therefore less dependent on one single air-pressure zone surviving.

For Ranked play, that matters because even a few surviving defenses can slow the final percentage enough to change the result.

The upper-right edge carries the most risk

The upper-right edge appears to be the most accessible section of the structure.

The concern is not simply losing a few buildings there. The bigger danger is losing control of the ring. If troop movement becomes too predictable from this side, the attacking force may avoid the separation the layout is designed to create.

That makes this area especially important for defensive overlap and hidden trap pressure. The goal does not necessarily have to be an immediate stop. Creating hesitation, forcing an early ability, or delaying support troops may be enough to strengthen the core later.

Why Layout #21 fits Ranked defense

The strongest quality of TH13 Ranked Base #21 is that it tries to defend the whole score rather than one building.

The offset Town Hall pressures stars. The open ring interferes with troop pathing. Separated Infernos and Air Defenses preserve defensive pressure, while the broader perimeter can make cleanup and percentage collection surprisingly slow.
