TH14 Clan War Base #17: Asymmetric Diamond Defense Built for Three-Star Denial

TH14 Clan War Layout #17 uses an asymmetric diamond structure with the Town Hall positioned near the edge of the inner core. After studying the layout itself, the defensive idea looks deliberately uncomfortable: the base separates its most valuable targets, stretches defensive coverage across different compartments, and avoids giving the attacking army one obvious route that solves everything.

This feels much more like an anti-three-star war design than a simple Town Hall protection base. The Town Hall matters, but the rest of the village is arranged to stay dangerous even if that objective eventually falls.

The Town Hall is part of the trap, not the whole defense

The Town Hall sits slightly toward the right side of the central structure rather than being buried at the exact middle.

That positioning creates an interesting defensive tradeoff. A force committed heavily toward the Town Hall may still leave major defenses alive elsewhere, especially across the central and opposite-side compartments.

From the defender’s perspective, that is useful. The base does not depend on one compartment surviving forever. Instead, it tries to make the Town Hall phase consume enough troops, hero health, spells, or time that the remaining village becomes much harder to finish.

The asymmetric diamond disrupts clean troop movement

The wall pattern is probably the most distinctive feature of Layout #17.

The diamond is not perfectly balanced, and the surrounding compartments vary in size and depth. That irregular shape can cause attacking troops to take different routes once the first inner section opens.

One group may continue toward the Town Hall while another drifts into a side compartment. When that happens, the defense gains something more valuable than another wall layer: troop separation.

Yeti or Bowler Smash armies are especially dangerous when the entire formation stays compact. This layout appears designed to stretch those troops across multiple zones so Infernos, X-Bows, Scattershots, and other defenses can work on smaller groups.

Defensive anchors are deliberately spread out

The Air Defenses provide staggered coverage around the village, while the Inferno Towers act as separate high-value threats instead of one compact pair.

That spacing reduces easy spell value.

Against Dragons or LavaLoon, one air-defense section may fall while another remains active farther across the base. Queen Charge Hybrid faces a similar defensive issue: removing one section does not automatically silence the defensive pressure deeper inside.

The layout is trying to stay dangerous in phases rather than relying on one overwhelming central burst.

The right edge is the main structural concern

The right edge appears to be the most vulnerable side of the base.

The shorter diagonal from that direction gives supporting defenses less room to overlap before the inner structure is threatened. If that side collapses too quickly, some of the asymmetric pathing pressure disappears.

From a defensive standpoint, this is where hidden traps would likely provide strong value. The goal would not necessarily be an instant stop. Even delaying troops, forcing an early hero ability, or weakening support units could make the remaining compartments much stronger.

Why Layout #17 fits Clan War

The strongest feature of TH14 Clan War Base #17 is that it makes scouting and sequencing matter.

The Town Hall is separated from other defensive value, the asymmetric diamond creates uneven troop routes, and staggered Air Defense and Inferno coverage keeps different sections relevant throughout the raid.
