TH15 Ranked Base #17: Open-Ring Defense Built Around Pathing and Time Pressure
TH15 Ranked Layout #17 is built around a central Town Hall and an open-ring defensive structure. After studying the actual base, the strongest part of the design appears to be how it divides the village into several defensive zones instead of concentrating everything in one compact core.
The Town Hall sits inside the primary defensive area, while the compartments around it create multiple crossing lanes. That makes the base less dependent on raw damage alone. Its real job is to disturb troop movement, separate attacking groups, and force the raid to spend more time moving between sections.
For Ranked defense, that can be particularly useful.
The Town Hall anchors the central pressure zone
The Town Hall is positioned deep enough that an attacking army has to commit to the interior before dealing with it comfortably.
At the same time, the layout does not place every valuable defense directly beside the Town Hall. Several defensive anchors remain spread around the ring, meaning the loss of one central compartment does not automatically remove pressure from the rest of the village.
This gives the defense a layered feel.
Even when troops survive the first engagement, they may reach the next section with weaker heroes, fewer spells, or support units already separated from the main force.
The open ring is designed to split attacking troops
The wall structure is probably the most important defensive feature of Layout #17.
Several targets around the ring sit at similar distances from an incoming army. That may encourage one group to move around the outside while another turns toward the Town Hall.
For the defender, that is ideal.
A compact Root Rider or heavy smash army is much more dangerous when heroes, support troops, and the front line stay together. Once those groups separate, spell efficiency drops and individual defensive compartments gain more time to deal damage.
The layout is therefore using walls for pathing control, not simply as barriers.
Infernos and Air Defenses create separate threat zones
The Inferno Towers appear intentionally spaced rather than grouped into one easy spell zone. Air Defenses also cover different crossing lanes.
This should reduce the amount of defensive value an attacker can neutralize at once.
Against Dragons or LavaLoon, separate air coverage can keep pressure active as troops move from one section to another. The same idea applies to ground armies: shutting down one Inferno does not mean the next compartment becomes harmless.
The base tries to make every stage of the raid require fresh resources.
The upper-right side is the main defensive concern
The upper-right edge looks like the most vulnerable funnel point.
From the defensive perspective, this area needs to slow the opening rather than necessarily stop it completely. If that corner disappears too cheaply, the route toward the ring becomes easier to control and some of the base's pathing advantage is lost.
Trap placement around this section could therefore be especially important. Even forcing an early hero ability or slowing the opening by several seconds may be enough to strengthen the later defense.
Why #17 works for Ranked
The real strength of TH15 Ranked Base #17 is the tension between easy outside percentage and the harder central objective.
Outer buildings can tempt troops away from the center, while the Town Hall demands a more committed push. If an army spreads too widely, the ring separates it. If too much time is spent collecting percentage first, the inner defensive core gets additional help from the clock.
