TH18 Clan War Base #21: Offset Core and Difficult Exit Pathing

Town Hall 18 Clan War Layout #21 looks open enough to invite an attack, but the route through it is not nearly as simple as the outer shape suggests. The Town Hall sits slightly to the right of the central line, protected by a web of connected compartments rather than one oversized box. That small offset changes the feel of the base. An attacker may reach the objective from the nearest side, yet doing so without breaking the army into separate groups could be the real challenge.

The top edge appears to be the most practical place to start. It gives enough room to trim buildings on both corners and build a controlled funnel toward the core. Still, I would be careful about clearing too much. A wide funnel can actually work against the attacker here, because troops may see several nearby targets and split across adjacent sections. What begins as one strong push can turn into three weaker ones before the Town Hall compartment is properly secured.

That risk is reinforced by the wall layout. The base uses multiple small and medium compartments, with several turns around the middle. Ground troops are unlikely to follow one perfectly straight lane unless the setup is precise. Root Riders or another heavy smash army may have the strength to cross the walls, but power alone will not solve poor pathing. If heroes walk outside while support troops move inward, spell value drops quickly and the back end becomes much harder to finish.

The defensive coverage also looks deliberately spread out. Air Defenses are staggered around the core instead of being grouped into one convenient area, while the Inferno Towers seem to influence different entry routes. That may force air attackers to choose which threat to control first. Dragons could still find value from the top after one flank is removed, although a loose line of troops might circle around the outside. LavaLoon offers more control, but it would demand careful timing and a clear plan for the central defenses.

Queen Charge Hybrid is another believable counter. A Queen working from the upper side could remove one compartment, reduce pressure, and create a cleaner route for Miners and Hog Riders. The plan sounds attractive, but it may be slower than expected. One hidden trap, an awkward wall opening, or a defending unit that pulls the Queen away could delay the main attack and create serious time pressure.

Time is probably the base’s most realistic defensive weapon. This layout does not need to erase an army immediately. It can survive by making troops change direction, break into one extra compartment, or return for buildings left behind. A player may secure the Town Hall and a strong percentage, then watch the final seconds disappear with a few defenses still standing.

That is why the Clan War label fits. The base appears designed for star prevention and scouting pressure rather than relying on one dramatic trick. The top entry offers visible value, but the attack may not exit the core cleanly. A safe two-star approach could leave too much of the layout untouched, while an aggressive triple attempt risks losing control near the center.
