TH5 Farming Base number 1 – Compact Core and Resource Defense Analysis
This TH5 farming base is quite small, but it uses its wall space intelligently. Rather than wrapping the entire village in one simple square, the layout creates several connected compartments around the Town Hall and storage area. That gives the defense more chances to slow an attacker after the first wall has already been broken.
The Town Hall sits slightly above the center of the layout. It is protected, although I would say the real focus here is the resource core underneath it. The two Elixir Storages are kept inside the walls near the lower-middle section, with defensive buildings positioned around them. For a farming base, that placement makes sense because a cheap troop drop from the edge cannot immediately reach the stored Elixir.
There is a trade-off, though. Those two Elixir Storages are fairly close to each other. If an attacker creates a strong entry from the bottom and reaches that central pocket with enough troops alive, both could potentially be threatened during the same push. So the layout protects them well from shallow raids, but perhaps not as well from a properly organized core attack.
The walls help compensate for that weakness. Several small compartments force ground troops to make decisions as they move through the village. Giants may lock onto a nearby Cannon or another defense, while Goblins, Archers, or Wizards behind them become interested in a storage or outside building.
That is where a farming raid can start going wrong.
If the Giants move deeper while the support troops stay behind, the army loses some of its protection. The defending buildings then get more time to attack each group separately. At TH5, where farming armies are often kept relatively cheap, even a small pathing mistake can reduce how much loot the attacker eventually reaches.
The storages themselves also work as defensive buffers. They have far more hit points than collectors and many ordinary buildings. Troops standing around a storage for several seconds remain exposed to Cannons, Archer Towers, the Mortar, and other nearby defenses. A raid might comfortably take the first valuable target and then discover that too many troops have been lost to continue through the next compartment.
Splash pressure is particularly useful here. Low-health troops tend to gather around wall openings and storage buildings, giving the base opportunities to punish large groups rather than individual units. That should make basic Barbarian, Archer, or Goblin-heavy farming attacks less comfortable once they enter the interior.
The main Air Defense also appears to be kept within the defended section instead of sitting completely exposed at the edge. That provides some protection against Balloon-based attacks while the other defenses continue covering ground approaches.
The compact footprint is both a strength and a weakness. Defensive buildings can support one another well, but once an attacker gains control of the middle, several important targets are only a short distance apart.
Overall, this TH5 farming layout seems best at making quick resource raids inefficient. Small compartments, central storage protection, overlapping defensive fire, and high-hitpoint buildings all slow the attack down. It may still lose a defense, but an attacker who wants every storage is likely to need a much deeper commitment than someone simply picking off the easy buildings around the edge.
