TH5 Clan War Base number 5 – Balanced Core and Compartment Defense Analysis

This TH5 Clan War base has a very clean, balanced shape, but the symmetry is not only there for appearance. The Town Hall sits deep in the middle, with separate defensive sections on the left and right. That means an attacker can break into one side without immediately opening the whole base, which is useful when the main goal is to make a three-star attack less straightforward.

The Town Hall placement is probably the strongest part of the design. It is surrounded by walls and several defensive buildings, so troops cannot simply enter from the edge and reach it immediately. Even after the first wall is broken, the attacker still has to deal with the inner structure before gaining full control of the core.

The two side compartments also help with troop pathing. Giants entering from the left may lock onto the closest defensive building instead of moving directly toward the Town Hall. The same thing can happen from the right. If the attacker has not created a clean funnel, support troops such as Archers or Wizards may stay behind on outside buildings while the Giants move deeper.

That small separation can matter a lot at TH5.

The Elixir Storages are placed inside those side sections, and in Clan War their resources are not the important part. Their defensive value comes from their hit points. Troops can spend several seconds attacking a storage while nearby defenses continue firing. At this level, where armies are smaller and mistakes are harder to recover from, those extra seconds may be enough to weaken the main push.

I also like that the base does not put every defense directly beside the Town Hall. Defensive buildings are distributed across the layout, which means destroying one side does not instantly remove all pressure. The attacker may reach the core and still have Cannons, Archer Towers, or splash defenses firing from another angle.

Splash damage is particularly useful in a compact TH5 layout. The Mortar can pressure groups of low-health troops from deeper inside, especially if Archers, Barbarians, or Wizards gather behind Giants. Once the attacking support troops start bunching together, a few splash hits can remove a surprising amount of damage potential.

The outside buildings create a trade-off. They are easier percentage targets and can help an attacker shape a funnel. On the other hand, careless troop deployment may cause units to spend extra time walking around the perimeter instead of entering the intended compartment.

The main weakness is the symmetry. An experienced attacker can read the overall structure fairly quickly, and a strong entry through one side may create a predictable route toward the Town Hall. The base is also compact, so once the core falls, several remaining buildings are relatively close together.

Even so, this is a sensible TH5 Clan War defense. Its strength comes from central Town Hall protection, separated side compartments, storage-based delays, distributed defensive fire, and pathing that can split tanks from their support troops. It is not designed around one gimmick; instead, it tries to make every small attacking mistake more costly as troops move toward the center.
