TH5 Ranked Base number 8 – Compartment Defense and Core Protection Analysis

This TH5 Ranked base takes a compact approach, but it is not just a square of walls around the Town Hall. The interior is divided into several smaller compartments, with the Town Hall sitting well inside the defended part of the village. At TH5, where attackers have fewer troops and limited options for correcting bad pathing, those extra wall sections may matter more than they would at higher Town Hall levels.

The Town Hall placement is one of the stronger parts of the design. It is not sitting on the perimeter waiting for a quick entry. An attacker generally has to work through defensive buildings first, and even after the first wall is opened, there are still separate sections around the core.

What I like here is that the defenses are not all stacked in one corner.

Cannons, Archer Towers, the Mortar, and other important defensive buildings appear spread across different parts of the layout. That means removing one side does not immediately create a completely safe route through the rest of the village. Troops moving toward the center are likely to stay under fire from another direction.

The compartments can also make Giant pathing a little awkward. Giants prioritize defensive buildings, so a group entering from the lower-left, for example, may turn toward one defense while Archers or Wizards behind them begin clearing another structure. If the attacker has not created a proper funnel, the tanks and support troops can separate.

At TH5, that is a meaningful problem. There are not many spare troops available to repair a messy attack once it starts.

The Mortar is especially useful against grouped support troops. Barbarians, Archers, and Wizards tend to gather behind Giants, and splash damage can punish them while the Giants are occupied elsewhere. Keeping splash defenses protected inside the wall network rather than completely exposed gives them more time to influence the attack.

High-hitpoint resource buildings help too. In Ranked defense, the resources themselves are not the only consideration. Storages can act as temporary barriers, holding troops in one place while nearby defenses keep shooting. Those few extra seconds can gradually weaken an army before it reaches the Town Hall compartment.

There are plenty of buildings outside the walls as well. That is a mixed choice. They offer relatively easy destruction percentage, but they can also make funneling less clean. Troops dropped too widely may start walking along the perimeter instead of entering where the attacker intended.

The layout does have a weakness: it is compact. Once a well-organized army gains control of the center, several important buildings are close enough together to fall quickly. The overall symmetry also makes the basic structure easier to understand after a careful look.

Still, for TH5 Ranked play, the defensive concept is sensible. The base relies on central Town Hall protection, multiple compartments, distributed defensive coverage, splash pressure, and troop pathing that can punish an inaccurate funnel. It may not stop every strong attack, but it appears well designed to make rushed deployment and poorly supported ground pushes noticeably less forgiving.
