This Builder Hall 5 base number 01 takes a fairly different route from the usual compact box. The walls are spread into a wide diamond shape, with several openings and broken sections around the outside. At first, that can make the base seem more exposed than it really is. In practice, the design appears to use those gaps to influence troop movement rather than simply trying to wall off every building.
The Builder Hall is positioned almost exactly in the middle, which gives the defense a strong anchor. It is not something an attacker can easily reach from the edge without first dealing with other structures. More importantly, several defenses surround the central area from different directions. So even when troops finally get close to the Builder Hall, they are likely to arrive after already taking damage.
I think the spacing is one of the smarter parts of this base. Important defenses are not all packed into a single tiny compartment. The Multi Mortar sits to the right of the Builder Hall, where it can remain active while ground troops work through buildings elsewhere. If Barbarians or Archers bunch together during the approach, those repeated mortar shots may become much more valuable than they initially look.
The Crusher on the opposite side of the core gives ground attackers another problem. A straight rush toward the Builder Hall is not necessarily the safest option when melee troops can be pulled into heavy close-range damage along the way. This seems particularly useful against attacks where most of the army is dropped from one side with very little funnel preparation.
There is a similar idea with the ranged defenses. Archer Towers and Cannons are spread around the center instead of pointing all their coverage toward one entrance. That creates crossfire. Removing a defense on the left does not immediately make the right side harmless, and troops that wander away from the main group can still come under fire.
The outer wall sections are probably where this design becomes annoying to attack. They create lanes rather than complete enclosures. Units may walk around a wall, switch to a nearby building, or separate from the Battle Machine instead of following the most direct route. That is not guaranteed to happen every time, but Builder Base pathing can be unforgiving, and this layout appears designed to take advantage of it.
Several non-defensive buildings are also kept away from the immediate center. They provide a small but useful cleanup challenge. An attacker who commits everything to destroying the Builder Hall may later discover that a few structures remain in different corners, forcing surviving troops to travel farther while the clock keeps running.
There is a downside to the open shape. A patient player who understands the pathing may be able to create a clean funnel before committing the main army. Once enough outer structures disappear, the route into the center becomes more predictable. The defense therefore depends quite a bit on disrupting the first half of the attack.
For Builder Hall 5, though, the concept is convincing. Central protection, crossfire, splash pressure, separated defensive zones and deliberately awkward walls all contribute something useful. It is less about building an impossible fortress and more about making opponents lose time, split their troops and take unnecessary damage on the way in.
