Elephant Rider Arrives in Clash of Clans: Stats, Ability and One-Day Event Explained
Clash of Clans players now have a chance to test one of the strangest temporary troops we have seen in a while: the Elephant Rider.
The idea is pretty simple. You get a huge elephant built to charge toward defensive buildings, soak up damage, and open space for the rest of your army. Based on the screenshots being shared by players, the event also appears to give access to 50 Elephant Riders and 20 Valkyries for normal attacks, but only for a very short period.
The event is reportedly available for one day, so this feels more like a quick gameplay experiment than a normal troop release. If you want to see whether Elephant Riders actually fit your attack style, I would not leave the testing until the final few hours.
What Exactly Is the Elephant Rider?
The Elephant Rider is a heavy ground troop that prefers to attack defensive buildings.
That immediately tells us what its role is likely to be. Rather than walking around the outside of a village clearing collectors, the elephant should try to move deeper into the base where the important defenses are located.
The unit appears to work mainly as a frontline tank. The elephant absorbs damage while the rider stays on top and continues attacking. Once the elephant is defeated, the rider may continue fighting separately.
That second stage is probably the most interesting part.
It means destroying the elephant may not completely remove the troop from the battlefield. If the rider survives afterward, defenders effectively have to deal with the same deployment twice in different forms.
The concept is somewhat familiar if you have used troops that split or change behavior after taking enough damage, but the huge health pool makes this version feel different.
Elephant Rider Stats
The in-game screenshot shows these numbers:
Stat Value Hit Points 10,500 Damage Per Second 560 Range 0.8 tiles Damage Type Area / Splash Targets Ground Preferred Target Defenses Housing Space 24 Movement Speed 20
The obvious number here is 10,500 HP.
For a troop taking 24 housing spaces, that is a serious amount of durability. It suggests the Elephant Rider is supposed to lead an attack rather than sit behind another tank.
The 560 DPS also means it is not just there to absorb damage. Several Elephant Riders reaching the same section could potentially remove defenses surprisingly quickly.
How Does Its Special Ability Work?
The description shown in the screenshot appears to mention extra interaction with Walls, along with the rider continuing after the elephant is defeated.
In practice, the troop may have two distinct phases.
First, the elephant pushes forward, targets defenses, takes heavy fire, and helps break through the village. Then, once the elephant goes down, the rider continues the attack on foot.
That sounds useful because the troop does not necessarily lose all of its value at the exact moment its main health bar disappears.
There is still room for testing here, though. How the rider chooses targets afterward, how much damage it deals, and whether it survives long enough to matter could make a big difference.
Best Way to Use Elephant Riders
I would avoid spreading them around the entire base.
Since they prefer defenses, Elephant Riders probably make more sense in a concentrated push. Deploy a few at the front, let them absorb the first wave of defensive fire, then send your damage dealers behind them.
The temporary Valkyries included with the event could be a natural partner. The elephants can tank and pull attention while Valkyries move into tighter compartments and deal their usual area damage.
Spells that keep the main group alive could also become valuable, particularly when several Elephant Riders are moving through the same defensive section.
One thing I would not do is immediately throw all 50 into random attacks. Try smaller groups first. Three or four Elephant Riders may tell you much more about their pathing and durability than a screen full of elephants covering everything.
Will Elephant Rider Become Permanent?
Maybe, but there is no reason to assume that yet.
Clash of Clans regularly introduces temporary troops that disappear once their event ends. A one-day trial may simply be a fun experiment rather than a preview of a permanent Barracks troop.
Still, the design has potential. A high-HP, defense-targeting elephant with splash damage and a surviving rider is different enough to stand out.
Whether that would remain balanced permanently is another question.
For now, the best thing to do is test the Elephant Rider while it is available. Try it against compact bases, open layouts, heavy Wall compartments, and different defensive setups. Watch its pathing closely and see how useful the rider becomes after the elephant falls.
Temporary troops have a habit of disappearing just when players finally figure them out. This one looks worth experimenting with before the timer runs out.
