TH13 Clan War Base #4: Open Anti-Three-Star Defense Built Around Objective Separation

TH13 Clan War Layout #4 uses an open anti-three-star structure with the Town Hall slightly offset toward the upper side rather than sitting on a perfectly centered line. Looking at the actual base, the defensive idea becomes clearer: the Town Hall is protected inside the inner network, but several important defensive zones sit away from it in separate compartments.

That separation gives the layout its Clan War identity. The base does not appear to rely on one giant central kill zone. Instead, it tries to make the attacker solve the Town Hall, remaining defenses, and percentage cleanup as different problems.

The Town Hall is important, but it does not carry the entire defense

The Town Hall sits inside the stronger central portion of the village, surrounded by multiple wall layers and supporting defenses.

What matters, though, is what remains outside that section. The large upper, lower, left, and right compartments each preserve defensive value of their own. If one part of the base collapses, another section can continue applying pressure without depending entirely on the Town Hall.

From a defensive perspective, that is useful in war. Losing the objective is not ideal, but losing it while keeping several strong compartments alive can still make the third star difficult.

Separate compartments create awkward transitions

The overall shape is noticeably open compared with a tightly packed core.

Several large compartments sit around the inner structure, and troops moving from one section to another may need to change direction rather than follow one continuous path. That can create exactly the kind of uneven movement an anti-three-star base wants.

A group entering one compartment may finish there while heroes or supporting troops drift toward another section. Once the attacking formation loses concentration, defensive towers gain longer firing windows and cleanup becomes slower.

This is probably one of Layout #4’s stronger defensive traits: it does not need to stop the army immediately if it can make the army finish in the wrong places.

Infernos and Air Defenses stay relevant across different lanes

The Air Defenses appear positioned to cover multiple entry routes rather than concentrating everything on one side. Inferno Towers are also separated enough to act as individual defensive anchors.

That spacing reduces easy single-spell value.

If one defensive section is controlled, another can remain active elsewhere. Against air-heavy pressure, this means one part of the village may weaken without making every other lane safe. Ground-heavy compositions face the same general issue: removing one defensive pocket does not automatically solve the next.

The base is therefore built around sustained pressure, not one short burst.

The lower-right edge is the main defensive concern

The lower-right edge looks like the most manageable entry point in the visible structure.

The real danger is not simply losing that outer section. It is allowing the offset objective to be secured too efficiently while most of the attacking force remains healthy for percentage cleanup.

That would weaken the base’s anti-three-star trade.

From the defensive side, this area needs to consume something—time, hero health, abilities, spell value, or troop strength—before the deeper structure is fully compromised.

Why Layout #4 works for Clan War

The strongest quality of TH13 Clan War Base #4 is the separation between a safe star route and a comfortable three-star route.

The offset Town Hall demands commitment. The open compartments create troop-pathing uncertainty. Separated Infernos and Air Defenses preserve defensive pressure, while distant surviving sections can turn the final part of the raid into a timing problem.
