TH13 Clan War Base #16: Open Anti-Three-Star Defense Built Around Layered Pressure

TH13 Clan War Layout #16 uses an open anti-three-star structure with the Town Hall slightly offset toward the upper side of the defensive core. Looking at the base itself, the layout does not seem interested in creating one huge central bunker. Instead, it spreads the important defensive work across several compartments, leaving the Town Hall, Inferno Towers, Air Defenses, and other high-value threats on different defensive paths.

That distinction is important. The base may allow an attacker to make visible progress, but its real purpose is to keep the third star uncomfortable.

The Town Hall is part of the defense, not the whole defense

The Town Hall sits inside the inner defensive network without occupying the exact geometric center.

This gives Layout #16 some flexibility. Even if the Town Hall section eventually falls, several other defensive pockets can remain active rather than collapsing with it.

From the defender's perspective, that is useful. A war base does not necessarily need to save the Town Hall every time. If taking it costs enough hero health, spells, troops, or time, the remaining defenses can still protect the final star.

The layout appears built around exactly that trade.

The open core creates several separate fights

The walls form an irregular network of compartments rather than one sealed central box.

That structure can make troop movement awkward. Different defensive targets become available at different angles, which increases the chance that an attacking formation begins to stretch across multiple sections.

This is especially valuable against Yeti or Bowler Smash-style armies. Those compositions are much harder to defend when tanks, heroes, and support troops remain together. Once the formation splits, Infernos, X-Bows, Scattershots, and nearby defenses gain longer firing windows.

The base is not simply asking its walls to stop troops. It is using them to make the attacking army fight the village in pieces.

Infernos and Air Defenses preserve pressure in stages

The Air Defenses appear positioned to cover crossing lanes instead of stacking their protection toward one side. The Inferno Towers are also separated enough that they behave as individual anchors.

That spacing reduces easy spell value.

Against Dragons or LavaLoon, one air-defense section may weaken while another remains active elsewhere. Queen Charge Hybrid creates a different type of pressure, but the same defensive logic applies: clearing one pocket does not automatically neutralize the next.

This gives Layout #16 a more persistent defensive feel. The danger does not disappear after the first successful engagement.

The upper-left area carries extra responsibility

The upper-left edge appears to be the most readable side of the structure.

For the defense, that area needs to make the opening cost something. The biggest structural concern is an efficient early Town Hall phase that leaves too much of the main attacking force untouched.

If the objective is secured cheaply, the anti-three-star concept becomes weaker because the remaining army can approach the outer compartments with too much strength.

So the goal is not necessarily an immediate stop. Delaying the raid, forcing abilities, weakening heroes, or separating support troops can already make the later defensive sections far more effective.

Why Layout #16 fits Clan War

The strongest feature of TH13 Clan War Base #16 is that the defense asks the raid to solve three separate jobs: the funnel, the core, and the cleanup.

The Town Hall creates commitment. The open compartments disrupt formation. Separated Infernos and Air Defenses keep pressure alive, while distant surviving buildings can make the final percentage awkward.
