TH4 Clan War Base number 1 – Central Core and Funnel Control Analysis

This TH4 Clan War base is tiny compared with higher-level layouts, but that actually makes the wall placement more important. There are not many wall pieces to waste at TH4, so the design concentrates them around the Town Hall and the defensive core instead of trying to protect every storage. For war, that feels like the right priority.

The Town Hall sits deep in the middle of the village. An attacker cannot simply drop troops beside it and get quick access; there are walls and defensive targets in the way first. More importantly, the core is divided into smaller sections, so getting through the first wall does not necessarily mean the entire center is open.

I think that is where this base gets most of its defensive value.

Giants will naturally chase defenses rather than the Town Hall. Because those defenses are positioned at different points around the core, Giants entering from one side may turn away from the direct route an attacker had planned. Archers or other support troops can then remain behind to clear outside buildings.

At TH4, even a small split like that can be costly. Armies are limited, so losing a few Archers early or letting the Giants move too far ahead may leave the attack short on damage later.

The two Elixir Storages are outside the main walls, which would be a weakness in a farming layout. In Clan War, though, the resources inside them do not matter. Leaving them exposed saves wall space for the Town Hall and defenses, and they can still serve as distractions for troops that attack any building.

The Mortar is especially important in a compact base like this. Barbarians and Archers often group together behind Giants, and Mortar splash damage may punish that clustering while the Giants are busy elsewhere. Cannons and Archer Towers then provide steady single-target pressure from different sides.

Another useful detail is that the base still has meaningful defenses beyond the immediate Town Hall compartment. Taking the Town Hall does not necessarily shut down the whole defense. If the attacker loses too many troops getting into the center, the remaining buildings may create an awkward cleanup.

There are weaknesses, of course. The exposed storages and outside buildings give away easy percentage and can help a careful attacker establish a funnel. The base is also very compact, so once the inner walls are opened successfully, there is not much distance between the remaining targets.

Still, this looks like a sensible TH4 war-focused design. It uses the limited walls where they matter most, protects the Town Hall, keeps the main defenses supporting one another, and tries to disrupt ground pathing rather than protect resources that have no value during war.

A patient attacker may still break it, but rushed Giants, poorly placed support troops, or an inaccurate first wall breach could make the three-star considerably less comfortable than the small layout initially suggests.
