TH4 Clan War Base number 5 – Compact Core and Defensive Pathing Analysis
This TH4 Clan War base is small, but it uses that limited space in a fairly sensible way. The Town Hall sits inside the main wall network instead of being pushed toward an exposed corner, while the defenses are divided between several connected sections. At this level, even a couple of extra wall crossings can make an attack noticeably less comfortable.
One thing that stands out immediately is what the layout doesn't protect. Several resource buildings, including the Elixir Storages, are left outside the main walls. For a normal farming base that would be questionable, but in Clan War it makes more sense. The resources themselves are not the objective, so valuable wall space can be reserved for the Town Hall and actual defensive buildings.
The central area is fairly tight. An attacker coming straight toward the Town Hall still has to deal with walls and nearby defensive targets first. Giants, for example, will not simply walk toward the Town Hall; they are likely to turn toward the closest defense. That can pull them slightly away from the route the attacker planned.
At TH4, that kind of pathing mistake matters.
A Giant group may move deeper while Archers or other support troops remain behind clearing outside buildings. Once the army stretches out, the defending Cannons, Archer Towers, Mortar, and other available defenses get more time to focus on smaller groups rather than the entire army at once.
The wall arrangement also helps here. It is not one completely open square. There are smaller internal sections that interrupt movement through the village. Breaking the first wall gets troops inside, but it does not necessarily create a clean lane through every important building.
I also like the use of outside structures as distractions. They give attackers easy percentage, admittedly, but they can interfere with funneling. Drop troops too widely and some may start walking around the perimeter while the main force moves inward. At lower Town Hall levels, losing even a handful of troops to poor pathing can make the final cleanup surprisingly awkward.
Splash damage is another important part of TH4 defense. The Mortar is especially valuable when Barbarians or Archers remain grouped together. If those troops spend too long clearing outside buildings or following behind Giants, a few well-placed Mortar shots can reduce the attack much faster than single-target defenses alone.
There are weaknesses. The base is compact, so once a strong attack gains control of the center, the remaining important buildings are not far apart. Leaving storages outside also gives an attacker easy buildings for percentage and funnel creation. A patient player can use that to prepare a cleaner entry.
Still, the defensive idea is practical for a TH4 Clan War layout. Rather than wasting walls on resource protection, it focuses on the Town Hall, defensive coverage, and troop movement. The result is a base that may look simple, but can still punish a rushed attack where Giants move ahead, support troops wander outside, or the attacker opens the wrong part of the wall first.
