TH9 Ranked Base #2: Multi-Compartment Defense Built Around Core and Percentage Control
TH9 Ranked Layout #2 uses a multi-compartment structure with the Town Hall positioned centrally inside the primary defensive core. Looking at the base itself, the design is noticeably compact around the middle, but it does not rely on one oversized compartment. Instead, several smaller sections divide the important defenses and force an attacker to keep making pathing decisions as the raid develops.
That fits Ranked play well. The layout appears interested in more than simply protecting the Town Hall. It also tries to control percentage, troop positioning, and the amount of time available for cleanup.
The Town Hall anchors the main defensive zone
The Town Hall sits deep inside the village rather than being offered near the perimeter.
This gives the attacker a clear objective, but reaching it does not automatically solve the rest of the layout. X-Bows, Air Defenses, Wizard Towers, Teslas, the defending Archer Queen, and other defenses remain spread through neighboring compartments.
That separation can matter late in a raid. An attacker may secure the Town Hall yet still have substantial percentage left on opposite sides of the base.
For Ranked defense, that is useful. The base does not need every building to survive; a handful of well-positioned defenses can be enough to turn a comfortable attack into a rushed finish.
Small compartments can disturb troop movement
The wall pattern is probably one of Layout #2's strongest features.
Several compartments meet around the central area, giving troops multiple nearby targets once the first walls are opened. A narrow funnel may keep the main force together. A wider one, however, can send different groups into adjacent sections.
That split is where the defense can gain value.
Hog-based attacks work best when defensive pathing stays predictable and Heal Spells cover a large group. If Hogs divide between two lanes, their efficiency can drop quickly.
Queen Charge LavaLoon is another realistic TH9 threat. A strong Queen phase may remove an Air Defense and shape one side, but the remaining Balloon route still has to deal with coverage from the other compartments.
Air Defense placement matters heavily at TH9
At Town Hall 9, Air Defenses are among the most important defensive anchors, alongside the X-Bows, Archer Queen, Wizard Towers, Teslas, and point defenses.
Here, they do not sit in one easy cluster. Their spacing creates several air lanes rather than one obvious section that can be removed to make the rest of the village safe.
That is especially useful against LavaLoon, where the order in which Air Defenses are approached can shape the entire second half of the attack.
The top edge offers the easiest start
The top edge looks like the most comfortable place to establish a funnel and collect some early percentage.
Still, an easy start does not guarantee an easy finish. If the funnel becomes too wide, the main army may split between neighboring compartments. That can reduce concentrated damage and create cleanup problems later.
The attacker therefore has to balance quick outside value with keeping enough control for the central push.
Why Layout #2 works for Ranked
The strongest quality of TH9 Ranked Base #2 is the separation between early percentage and comfortable access to the core.
The central Town Hall pressures stars, the compartment-heavy structure interferes with troop concentration, and the distributed defenses keep percentage relevant throughout the raid.
