This Builder Hall 5 base number 06 looks compact from a distance, but the defense is actually divided into several small fighting areas. The Builder Hall is kept close to the middle, while the walls create separate pockets around it rather than forming one large enclosure. That choice may be the key to the whole design. An attacker can break into the base fairly quickly, yet getting every troop to move toward the same target is another matter.
The Builder Hall has solid support around it. It is surrounded by defensive buildings on several sides, which means troops entering the center are unlikely to get a free run at the Hall. A Battle Machine that comes through the western or southern walls, for example, may stop to deal with another defense first. During that delay, weapons deeper in the base can keep firing.
The Multi Mortar positioned close to the core is especially valuable here. It has enough protection that it should not normally disappear in the first few seconds, and the compartment design can encourage ground troops to bunch together. When Barbarians or Archers collect around a wall break, repeated splash shots become much more troublesome. The Mortar does not need to wipe out the group by itself; softening them before they reach the center can already change the attack.
There is also a noticeable amount of pathing control on the left and lower sides. Short wall sections create turns and dead-end-looking pockets instead of offering one obvious corridor. That can cause troops to move sideways toward a Cannon, Archer Tower or nearby building when the attacker really wants them heading inward. It is a fairly simple defensive trick, but Builder Base attacks often fall apart because of one unexpected target switch.
The right side works differently. The Air Bombs are positioned away from the Builder Hall, forcing air-focused attackers to deal with pressure in more than one place. If flying troops concentrate entirely on the core, that outer anti-air defense may stay active longer. Sending units after it first solves one problem, but it also pulls part of the attack away from the center.
Another thing worth noticing is the use of buildings outside the main walls. The collectors and other structures around the edges can stretch an attack without needing to deal any damage themselves. Ignore them and they may become annoying cleanup targets later. Clear all of them first and valuable seconds are spent before the main push even starts.
The layout does have a risk. Several important defenses are still relatively close together, so a carefully prepared funnel could let a strong group reach the center and remove multiple targets in quick succession. The base seems to rely on disrupting that funnel before it becomes clean, rather than hoping the central compartment can survive indefinitely.
For Builder Hall 5, that is a sensible defensive approach. The protected Hall, central splash pressure, separated air coverage and short wall compartments all encourage inefficient troop movement. It will not stop every experienced attacker, but players who drop their army too quickly from one side are likely to lose control of the attack long before the center is fully cleared.
